  Application Outline

We have begun accepting applications to the leading program for doctoral education as of 2018.
The object of this program is to nurture the ‘brain information architect’, who will collaborate with industry and overseas partners to open up a new horizon of technology grounded in an understanding of the human.
We educate brain information architects who are capable of:

– creating new technology for deepening our understanding of brain science
– making the best use of technology to further brain science
– creating innovative technologies inspired from studies of the brain

 

Our program not only targets brain science, but also aims to nurture students who can apply knowledge learned from studying the brain to interdisciplinary studies in mechanical engineering, information technologies, information engineering, social and environmental engineering, and life engineering, which applies scientific approaches to achieve personal progress.

 

Output from studying the brain includes approaches for:
• large-scale data processing;
• brain-activity simulation;
• innovative information technology for media, knowledge and intellectual processing;
• information electronics;
• new material technology in measuring, recording and stimulating the brain and body activity;
• brain-engineering technology for evaluating social and living environments;
• human-to-machine interfaces; and
• new control technology developed from studies of the brain and body.

 

In order to accomplish this goal, we strengthen promotion of advanced science and technology education through our 21st century Centre of Excellence (COE), our global COE, management of technology (MOT) training, and our next-generation simulation technologist program.

 

The brain information architect program promotes education and research activities based on new technology and product development from the most advanced brain science knowledge developed by advanced research institutions centered at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine and Okazaki National Institute for Physiological Sciences. Our program pioneers the training of talented smart doctoral students to become brain information architects.

 

Application requirements

Students who comply with the following terms, and who enter the first year (first or latter half) of any of the doctoral courses in our university in 2018 may apply. (This includes students in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic and Electronic Information Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Environmental and Life Sciences, and Architecture and Civil Engineering)

 

1)Students who wish to move to the second-half of our doctoral course at the completion of the first-half doctoral course program (master course).
2)Students who wish to be active in industry, governmental agencies, academia, and international institutions after completing the second half of the doctoral program.
3)Students whose research theme is to implement new technology realized as a brain information architect from developing an improved understanding of the human.
4)Students who have (or plan to have) achievements from collaborative research with internal and external universities, research institutions, and industry.
5)External students, for whom the terms (1) to (4) above apply and who have received recommendation from the guiding faculty.

 

The student must be completing a first-half doctoral program when applying for the second half of the doctoral program. They must also be able to objectively indicate the achievements of studies and research relevant to a brain information architect, and have experience of working within domestic universities, research institutes, and/or industry.
